The Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival at Lula
Following the popularity of their October engagement at Lula, Habana Sax will return for four consecutive nights beginning Thursday, June 24 as part of the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival. Those who saw Habana Sax last time they appeared at Lula were blown away by the superb performances. The band is currently playing at the Winnipeg Jazz festival and has been declared the best of the festival by one of its directors. Click here for details.
Jazz pianist-composer Sunnie Paxson
On June 29 and 30th, Lula audiences will be treated to Los Angeles based jazz pianist-composer Sunnie Paxson. Joining Paxson are Euro jazz singer, dancer extraordinaire Lyne Tremblay (National Jazz Awards nominee for Best New Jazz Singer 2003), former Sugar Jones singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Julie Crochetière, the sultry, soulful singer-songwriter-pianist Daniela Nardi, and Canadian actor and singer-songwriter Laura Robinson (just returned from 12 years in L.A.). Sunnie is a close collaborator of virtuoso bassist Stanley Clarke, who plays on her latest CD and is scheduled to perform at the Downtown Jazz Festival Friday, July 2. Latin Alternative Music Conference
In July Lula will host be host to the Latin Alternative Music Conference with two battle of the bands nights which will be headlined by San Francisco-based Los Mocosos on July 11th and by Nortec Collective on July 15th.
New Summer Menu
On July 16, chef Derek Crinson will introduce a special summer menu. With this new menu Derek will continue to infuse traditional latin American dishes with his unique contemporary flair. Incorporating an abundance of tropical fruits and herbs, as well as fresh local ingredients, the summer menu looks just right for a sultry, summer evening. Come and enjoy it as part of one of our Friday or Saturday night and dinner dance lesson and show packages. We've got great bands lined up for each weekend so come and cool down with a refreshing mojito (not to mention the airconditioning.)
