Don’t despair!
Summertime may soon be over but the music and dancing gets hotter each week at Lula Lounge!! Every Friday and Saturday in September, Lula is the place to be for great latin fusion food and salsa dancing to live music. Don't miss the Colombian Dance party on Friday September 10. Valentin y Los Del Caribe plays Friday September 17 -- this 12 piece, brass-driven group is known for tight choreography and is considered Varadero’s top Cuban orchestra.
Small World Music
The Small World Music Festival returns to Lula with two concerts. On September 23, Algerian born Abdelli will open the festival with his hypnotic, evocative melodies. Abdelli is a singer, poet and mandola player who explores the themes of exile and hope by fusing of the musical traditions of his native Kbylia with the rhythms and sounds of diverse African and European cultures.
On September 29th, Italian drummer Allesandra Belloni returns to Lula to present her unique blend of southern Italian and Brazilian influences. Belloni is considered one of the most accomplished percussionists of the World Music genre.
James Blood Ulmer - MY ID Project
Legendary jazz and blues guitarist Ulmer will appear as part of MY ID Project on September 30 along with Aubrey Dayle and Ron Jackson. Ulmer is renowned for his distinct combination of free style jazz with bottom-bumping funk and gut-bucket blues. Ulmer has recorded with Ornette Coleman, Rashied Ali, David Murray and Oliver Lake. His performance at Lula Lounge with celebrated percussionist Aubrey Dayle and guitarist Ron Jackson will be his first appearance in Toronto in 8 years.
Holiday Parties
We're already booking parties for the holiday season. Lula can accomodate groups of 2 to 250 people for cocktails, canapés or full dinners. We're hosting our second Event Planners party on September 28 -- if you're responsible for booking your office party, planning a wedding or fundraiser, email us at parties@lula.ca or inquire online and we will mail you our brochure plus invite you to our special evening of food, dancing and music.
