November 17 - Evaristo Machado
This Wednesday, November 17, Cuban-born musician Evaristo Machado gathers his friends and special guests for a night of music and poetry that will recreate the atmosphere of an evening at Havana’s famous “Casa del Joven Creador”. Join us for an evening of jazz, funk reggae and bossa fusion with an intimate flavour.
November 18 - Montuno Police
Lula will heat up with global jazz on Thursday, November 18. From beyond the cutting edge comes Rick Shadrach Lazar’s sextet Montuno Police. We’ve been promised vicious grooves and tear down da house excitement for this rare Toronto appearance. Montuno Police will present original compositions that combine the improvisational traditions of North American Jazz with influences from Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and Arabic music.
November 26 - Pueblito Fundraiser
We’re very pleased to be able to say that the dinner portion of Pueblito’s fundraiser at Lula Lounge next Friday, November 26th has already sold out. There are still tickets available for the dancing part of the evening featuring Caché. (Call 416-963-8846 for more information.) Proceeds from the sale of these tickets go to support the efforts of Pueblito to improve children’s lives throughout Latin America. Bohemian Ball
Tuesday November 30, Lula will throw a party for all the musicians, performers and artists that have made the past year possible. We want to take time with our friends and family to celebrate how lucky we are to have the support of such a vibrant artistic community and to say thanks to the many people who have contributed to the success (and fun) we've had this year. If you feel like Lula belongs to you too, come out and dance and have a toast and get all sentimental with us. Please RSVP to tracy@lula.ca so we can make food plans.
December 2 - African Guitar Summit
December 2 Lula Lounge is honoured to host the African Guitar Summit CD release party in celebration of the rich diversity of African music in Canada. Presented by Music Africa, the night’s incredible line up will feature Madagascar Slim, Donné Robert, Pa Joe, Mighty Popo, Adam Solomon, Kofi Ackah and Theo Yaa Boakeye. If you have already heard the CD being played on CBC radio or the campus stations, you’ll know what treasures are in store for us that evening. Special guests for the night at Lula Lounge include the Cameroonian troubadour Fojeba and the Nouvel Exposé Dance Troupe.
Holiday Parties
We're already booking parties for the holiday season. Lula can accomodate groups of 2 to 250 people for cocktails, canapés or full dinners. We're hosting our second Event Planners party on September 28 -- if you're responsible for booking your office party, planning a wedding or fundraiser, email us at parties@lula.ca or inquire online and we will mail you our brochure plus invite you to our special evening of food, dancing and music.
New Years Eve
Join us to greet the New Year! Our package includes a special three course latin fusion menu, the devine Brazilian bossa nova band Mistura Fina, a beginner salsa lesson, and Toronto's favourite salsa band, Caché. Of course, there will be a glass of champagne at midnight and general revellery until we're too tired to go on.
Book now because last year we sold out weeks in advance. $125 per person plus tax and tip ($150). Book before November 30 and receive a free admission pass for 4 for any salsa Friday in January or February.
