We are starting the year without skipping a beat. Here are some upcoming highlights of a terrific winter season:
January 27 - Smallworld Music and Lula Lounge present The Indian Ocean Disaster Benefit Concert and Silent Auction
A special night of artits coming together in support of the victims of this tragedy. All proceeds from the door will go to the disaster relief efforts of the Canadian Red Cross. The concert will feature some of the best of Toronto's global music artists, details are still being firmed up and will be posted soon. There will also be an art show and silent auction, any artists wishing to donate artwork should email Miriam Schacter at mir.iam@sympatico.ca. Businesses are also welcome to donate items for the auction. Lula Lounge will be collecting cash donations on behalf of tsunami aid projects. Look for the red box in the lobby.
The Tropic Of Gryphon: Chamber At Lula Lounge
On Januray 14, Music Toronto presents The Gryphon Trio, one of North America's premier chamber ensembles, for a night of chamber music inspired by the composers and musicians of Cuba and Brazil. Special guests for the evening will include Hilario Duran and Jovino Santos Neto on piano and Roberto Occhipinti on bass. After 11 we'll change gears for a night of Salsa dancing.
Jane Bunnett's Spirit Of Music Bash and Fundraiser
Jane, who was recently appointed to the Order of Canada, will hold the 3rd Annual 'Spirit of Music' Fundraiser. The night will benefit Cuban music schools in dire need of musical instruments and supplies. Gala Tickets are $75 and include a three course dinner. Performance only tickets are just $20. The evening also features a live auction, hosted by Jazz FM91's new host Ralph Benmergui.

Cuba's most famous exponent of contemporary 'son' music will grace the Lula stage for two unprecedented nights of Cuban-style salsa. Alvarez, known in Cuba as El Caballero de Son (the gentleman of son) will be backed by an extraordinary 16-piece orchestra. Don't miss a rare opportunity to experience in an intimate setting this giant of contemporary Cuban music singing the songs that have made him famous around the world. Our mandate is to support live music and performances of all genres by maintaining one of the best live music venues in the Toronto. By becoming a Lula member you'll help us continue to encourage and promote local artists as well as to foster an audience for both local and international talent. Presenting diverse and adventurous programming can be challenging and risky but your membership puchase helps us to continue putting on great shows!
