MORE LULA JAZZ

Lula Lounge will host two jazz cd release parties this month. On Feb 21, Nathalie Nadon & The Michael Barber Trio will launch their new CD "So In Love". On the following evening, Cuban-born Latin jazz trumpet player Alexis Baro celebrates the release of "Havana Banna". Baro is a National Jazz Award winner with a growing international reputation. Earlier in the month JAZZ.FM 91 host and jazz vocalist Amanda Martinez will join forces with Evaristo Machado and Kevin Laliberte for a night of Latin jazz, Bossa Nova and Cuban Trova.

AFROBRAZILIAN CARNAVAL

On February 17th, Small World Music presents an AfroBrazilian Carnaval featuring LURA and MARACATU NUNCA ANTES. At her appearance at Lula Lounge last September, Lura completely charmed the audience, leaving both her Cape Verdean fans and those new to the music of her country begging for more. Lura's performance on February 17th will be followed by a Carnaval party featuring Brazilian percussion troupe Maracatu Nunca Antes. So rest up, learn a little Portuguese and get ready for the best dance party of the year.

GARY TOPP PRESENTS

Veteran promoter Gary Topp has a great lineup at Lula Lounge over the next months.

Topp has the knack for choosing the very best in any genre - whether local rock bands or international world music acts. Astor Piazzolla fans won't want to miss acclaimed violinist and composer Helmut Lipsky on March 23 and 24. And the following week, Topp brings to Lula the UK's most influential art-rock band Audience followed just two nights later by Blowfly, the original X-rated rapper.

LULA WORLD CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

It's hard to believe but this May Lula Lounge will celebrate it's 4th anniversay! To mark the beginning of the fifth year of Lula, we are launching a compilation CD series that will feature local and international artists that have perfomed at Lula Lounge. The series will incorporate the many genres of music that are presented at Lula - including jazz, African, salsa, klezmer and Brazilian music. We plan to release the first in this series at our Lula World Festival which runs May 3 to 13th as part of our birthday celebrations.

We invite individual musicians and bands to submit recordings for inclusion in the CD. Mastered tracks can be from previously released or as yet unreleased albums. We hope that the CD will enhance the profile of each of the artistic contributor's while raising international awareness of the amazing musical scene that Toronto enjoys. Proceeds from the first CD will go to help the War Resisters Support Campaign.
