Canada Day Weekend @ Lula

If you can't get out of the city this long weekend, take a little trip to Lula to enjoy some cool summer cocktails and hot salsa and latin jazz. Members get in free this Saturday night. Saturday night, Lula boasts Toronto's best Cuban salsa outfit - Café Cubano. When the fireworks are finished at the waterfront, the sparks will just be starting to fly on the Lula dancefloor.

Sunday night, Jeremy Ledbetter's CANEFIRE returns to Lula with their unique blend of latin rhythms, steel pan drum and driving montunos. It's still the weekend so come to Lula Lounge and celebrate the summer's true beginning.

Friday July 7

July at Lula is loaded with Cuban music. One of the biggest stars of contemporary Cuban trova will make honour us with a visit next Friday night. We are very proud to be able to present singer/songwriter Carlos Varela. Varela is highly respected for his poetic lyrics, sweet melodies and political commentary. The press has compared Varela with Bob Dylan for the impact that his work has had upon young people in Cuba. The concert will be followed by a dance party featuring Wilson Acevedo's group Mora Sextet.

Lovers of classic Cuban son should mark two dates in their calendar: July 5th Lula welcomes Septeto Variedades, then on July 10 as part of Small World's Global Café, we'll be treated to Valle Son's traditional son infused with Brazilian, jazz and hip hop influences.

July 10 - 15

This year's Global Café promises to be the most diverse and exciting presented by Small World Music thus far. Artists from Portugal, Cuba, Morocco, Cape Verde, Nigeria, Bulgaria, Senegal and of course Canada will be showcased during the 9 day festival.
