Direct from the streets of New York City to the Lula stage and dancefloor, founding member of Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, Bryan Vargas brings his 6 piece Afro-Latino funk/jazz/soul hurricane to Canada for the first time this weekend!

Often compared to the ferocious party music of Ozomatli, Ya Está is known as a band that turns smoky clubs into full-on dancehalls; their exhilarating performances are considered essential listening for New York's diehard live music fans.

Audience participation is a requirement at their concerts; even the most stoic listener will find themselves singing, clapping and most certainly dancing to Ya Está's polyrhythmic stew.

The Best From The Global Music Scene

Celebrating the festival's fifth anniversary, Small World presents the best from the global music scene from September 21st to October 1. Presentations at Lula Lounge will include Italian performers Fiamma Fumana and Carmen Consoli, local afrobeat group Mr. Something Something, Kinnie Starr and Tanya Tagaq, Montreal-based Joaquin Diaz, Hendrik Meurkens, and many more. Before Vargas hits the stage on Friday night, Jaymz Bee presents a CD release party for Toronto Jazz group Kollage. Kollage is lead by Canadian jazz legend Archie Alleyne and features Ron Johnston on bass, Alexis Baro on the trumpet and Robert Botos on piano.
