BADI ASSAD
Lula Lounge is very excited about the return of Badi Assad to Lula Lounge on October 13th. Assad, the younger sister of the famous Sergio and Odair Assad is celebrated for her stunning guitar playing, original compositions and treatments of Brazilian classics.
"Badi Assad redefines solo (guitar) performance! Revelatory, a brilliant display of innovation, imagination and skill...almost hypnotically compelling."
~ LOS ANGELES TIMES
"For Badi, stellar finger-style skills are merely a jumping-off point. She has developed an astonishing one-woman band technique, adding gorgeous singing, hand percussion and a startling menagerie of percussive vocal effects to her stellar fretwork. The results are technically stupefying and drop-dead beautiful."

JAZZ.FM 91 Presents DIONE TAYLOR CD RELEASE
Lula is very proud to host the official CD launch party for soul jazz singer-songwriter Dione Taylor on Wednesday November 8th.
With her sparkling sophomore release, “I Love Being Here With You” (Marquis/EMI Music Canada), songstress Dione Taylor has emerged as a fully-formed and exciting young artist. While unmistakably a jazz album, “I Love Being Here With You” reflects Dione Taylor’s love and background in gospel, rhythm & blues and soul. Her rich and smoky voice has a truly soulful quality and has earned her international praise and nominations from the Juno’s, National Jazz Awards and the Canadian Urban Music Awards.
Don’t miss her eagerly anticipated debut at the Lula Lounge.
"Dione Taylor is one of the brightest young stars on the Canadian music scene. She is the total package! She has the looks, the voice and the musical experience to make a huge impact on the music industry."
~ David Clayton-Thomas (Blood, Sweat and Tears)

The series launches with the Royal Jelly Orchestra's Hallowe'en Jazz Extravaganza. November Tuesdays will include Louis Mario Ochoa, Runciple Spoon, and Babes in Jazz Land. If you are looking for a musical night out for this year's office holiday party, consider bringing the gang to Alex Pangman's Xmas CD release party on December 12th or to the Royal Jelly Orchestra Christmas party on December 19th. Check back to lula.ca for more details.
GARY TOPP PRESENTS ARTHUR BROWN
You never know what to expect from the most eclectic promoter in town. Sensitive Brazilian guitarists one week and the next - "The God of Hellfire!" Best know for his worldwide hit single "Fire", Arthur Brown is a counter-culture icon, free thinker, painter and decorator, and a perpetual seeker for change and truth. A pop-star in the 60s, Brown served as inspiration to the greats including Jimi Hendrix, The Who, The Sex Pistols, Alice Cooper, The Pretty Things, Tom Jones, The Prodigy, Maria Callas, Peter Gabriel, Joe Cocker, Marilyn Manson, Mick Jagger and Brian Jones.
GARY TOPP PRESENTS JAMES HUNTER
Buy your tickets early for Gary Topp's double presentation of English soul/blues guitarist James Hunter.
The All Music Guide calls Hunter "one of the best blue-eyed soul singers to emerge in the late 20th Century." Hunter's voice has the kind of depth and nuance that invites comparisons to Sam Cooke; his songwriting craft and impassioned performances recall Them-era Van Morrison - and like those artists, Hunter's music is timeless, sounding instantly classic and perpetually modern.
