On Wednesday November 29th, Lula Lounge will host a fundraiser for Esther Hart. The line up for this very special fundraiser presented by The Friends of Esther Hart (www.friendsofesther.com) includes Cynthia Dale, Molly Johnson, Jane Urquhart, Wendy Crewson, Barb Fulton, Dayna Tekatch, Judy Marshak, Kathy Greenwood and Linda Kash..

The goal of this event is to raise enough money for Esther to pay for the very expensive drugs that offer her a chance of living to see her three year old daughter Sophie attend her first day of school.

In May 2004, Esther was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colorectal cancer. She was admitted to hospital for surgery on her first Mother’s Day, when Sophie was 5 months old. A perforated bowel during the surgery left her in intensive care for six weeks. Aggressive chemotherapy treatments would follow, along with a gruelling regimen of tests to track the pace of the disease. She embraced alternative and complementary therapies.

In March 2006, Esther was given the worst news of her life. The cancer is more pervasive than ever, and has spread to her lungs, uterus and spine. Esther’s cancer is terminal. But there is a way she can have more time with her young daughter.

Actor Cynthia Dale read about Esther's plight in a Toronto Star article by writer Tanya Talaga, published on July 1st of this year. Dale has enlisted an amazing line-up of local female artists to volunteer at this fundraiser including Molly Johnson, one of Canada's most celebrated jazz vocalists.

LULA LOUNGE IS TORONTO'S HOME FOR LIVE SALSA

While Lula is host to almost every genre of live music to be found in Toronto from jazz, Brazilian and Indian to Fado, Country, and Blues, we never forget that the club was born out of a passion for Salsa music - a genre that itself comprises an incredible diversity of styles. The remainder of 2006 will be packed with world class salsa presentations that prove once again that Toronto is becoming an internationally renowned centre for contemporary latin music. This Friday Billy Bryans and Lula Lounge present the Victoria-based, Cuban-born vocalist Adonis Puentes. Puentes is well known for his work as half of the Puentes Brothers duo and is building a reputation as one of todays best salsa singers.

On December 15th we have Roberto Occhipinti's Mambo Q Orchestra with special guest vocalist Alberto Alberto. With an opening set by the Hilario Duran Trio, this will be an evening not to be missed. The following week, we're proud to present the Toronto CD Launch for Montreal-based Oscar Fuentes' latest release. Fuentes will be joined by prominent Toronto musicians including our own Joaquin Hidalgo and his group Cubanos. On December 23 Hilario Duran will return with his own salsa ensemble, Havana Remembered.

JAYMZ BEE'S TUESDAY JAZZ SERIES CONTINUES

Jazz.FM host Jaymz Bee with the support of Robert Mondavi Wines presents weekly concert series featuring the most exciting up and coming local jazz talent as well as the musical veterans who have shaped Toronto's jazz scene over the years.

November Tuesdays include Runcible Spoon and Babes in Jazz Land. If you are looking for a musical night out for this year's office holiday party, consider bringing the gang to Alex Pangman's Xmas CD release party on December 12th or to the Royal Jelly Orchestra Christmas party on December 19th. On December 5th, Canadian Jazz legends Archie Alleyne and Dougie Richardson will treat us to a night of the soulful sounds of Kollage.
